Clean and Modern Dining Room Progress

Simple, clean and modern dining room renovation progress!

It's been a while since I've shared progress of the kitchen/first-floor renovation, but today is the day.  Today, I'm finally sharing how the modern dining room is coming along.  There's still more to be done (patching, caulking and painting), but it's looking pretty good thanks to new molding, a new modern light and cool mid-century modern chairs that I scored from an auction.

I kept the furniture and decor to a minimum to help maximize the small space and new open floor plan.  It feels so much more open and the perfect clean modern vibe that I was going for.

To refresh your memory, let's take a look back at how the dining room looked earlier this year before the renovations started.
Dining room before

There were walls dividing the dining room from the living room as well as the kitchen.

The walls came down, the staircase opened and the first floor of our house instantly felt brighter and larger.

After the floors were patched and the new hardwoods laid in the kitchen we had them refinished in a 75/25 mix of Minwax Special Walnut and Dark Walnut.

I also had our contractor replace the molding above the battens to something more clean and modern.  I still need to patch the nail holes, caulk all the trim and repaint the room (Sherwin-Williams Accessible Beige), but it's looking so much better already.

I went a lot more modern with the light fixture and chose a super affordable Mid-Century Modern gold light with clear glass globes.

I still love my black Windsor chairs, but I couldn't resist buying a new set of MCM chairs when I found them at an auction.   They're solid walnut and bring the perfect modern vibe to the space.

I do plan on keeping my Windsor chairs, so don't be surprised if you see me playing musical chairs in the dining room.

I love how the dining room is coming along and I'm so glad I went with my gut and went a little more clean and modern.
