42 Gallons...

That's about how much water gushed into our basement while we were sleeping.  I woke up at 5:45 Thursday morning to my husband calmly saying, "you forgot to put the hose back in the laundry tub last night and there is water everywhere."   Thank goodness he was calm because I was completely freaking out. As soon as I stepped down from the basement step my feet were soaked and my stomach dropped.   What have I done?  The water had poured right out of our washer hose and into our laundry room, office and half of our basement.  Gallons and gallons of nasty, dirty, soapy water.  I'm not gonna lie, there were moments of crying, complete frustration and a few cuss words said. Yeah, it's been a rough couple of days to say the least. Our basement quickly went from this.... (sorry for the blurry iPhone picture) to this... Everything that was on the floor and under the stairs had to be moved out and to where it was dry.  Cardboard storage boxes that w...

Large Rustic Pallet Christmas Tree

I admit, I'm a self proclaimed pallet addict.  At first my husband thought I was a little crazy with the pallets, but now he's become an enabler and supports my habit.  Hey, it could be worse. You may remember the small  pallet trees  I made a few weeks ago for a local craft fair.  They were cute and perfect for indoor decor, but I wanted to create a large tree that I could sit outside our covered mudroom entrance.   After cutting apart a pallet and nailing down a few boards to a piece of scrap wood I was left with a perfectly rustic (and free) pallet tree. It only took about 10 minutes to cut all the boards off the pallet and into pieces with 45 degree angles.   The hardest part was figuring out how I wanted to layer the pieces, thank goodness I had a cute assistant to help out.   (He said he was building a snowman incase you couldn't tell, ha) Once I was happy with how my tree looked I started nailing it together.  I grabbed a scrap piece of wood to use a...

{Craft Fair} Painted Mason Jars and Weathered Wood Boxes

This post contains affiliate links. I'm stopping in real quick this morning to share two more crafts I created for the upcoming craft fair, painted mason jars and weathered wood boxes. There are many tutorials around blogland for both projects, so instead of giving full blown instructions I'll mainly be sharing the after pictures :) PAINTED MASON JARS Here's what I used:  -Wide Mouth Pint Sized Mason Jars -White Chalk Paint -Water Based Polycrylic -Oil Rubbed Bronze Spray Paint -Curio Knobs -Gorilla Glue -Sandpaper 1. Glue the two pieces of your lids together then spray with ORB spray paint. 2. Paint mason jars with chalk paint, sand and seal with polycrylic. 3. Glue on curio knobs. I love how they turned out and think they would be perfect for storing little craft or office supplies. WEATHERED WOOD BOXES These adorable weathered wood boxes are one of my favorites.  I purchased unfinished wood boxes at Michaels then weathered t...

Easy and Rustic Pallet Christmas Trees

Learn how to make easy rustic pallet Christmas trees.  I hope you all aren't sick of my pallet projects because I'm really excited about this next one!  I loved creating my pallet pumpkins  for the fall and thought what better way to kick off my holiday decor than with pallet Christmas trees! I started by cutting pallets into various pieces then stacked them to form the shape of Christmas trees.  Once I was happy with the shape of my trees I glued the pieces together, clamped them tight and let them dry overnight.   After the glue was dry I white washed and sanded each one then attached a large wood slice for the tree trunk.   I thought I was done, but the trees just seemed too plan and boring.   I dug through my craft supplies looking for inspiration and found the perfect little wooden stars.  I used the smallest drill bit I had to drill a small hole in the top of each tree and star and attached them with wire and glue. I just love how t...
