Antique Apothecary Jar Mantel Display

Fireplace mantel styled with 1890's antique apothecary jars.   While the majority of bloggers are beginning to decorate for Christmas, I'm over here styling my fireplace mantel with my new collection of antique apothecary jars.   Hunting and picking for vintage decor are fun, but there's something incredibly gratifying about stumbling upon an instant collection, especially an antique pharmaceutical bottle collection.  I saw them online at a local auction and knew right away that I had to have them.  Old apothecary jars are getting harder and harder to find, with large collections and LUG (label under glass) jars being almost impossible.  The auction lot was for thirteen LUG apothecary bottles from the late 1890s.  I was really happy to win the lot for $170, which after fees made each bottle about $15.  It may seem like a lot of money, but it was a steal for these rare and super cool apothecary jars.  It would have taken me YEARS and a he......

Paige's New Room: Teen Bedroom Mood Board

Neutral, sophisticated and fun teen girl bedroom makeover plans!  I'm diving headfirst into 2022 with a fun new makeover!  With much hesitation on my part, I FINALLY gave in and agreed to let my almost 14-year-old daughter move her bedroom to the basement.  She's been so incredibly patient with me and after years of asking, it's finally time I realize she's growing up and allow her to make this change....

Vintage Modern Basement

A small ranch-style basement decorated in a mix of vintage, industrial and modern styles. Our basement has always been overtaken with toys and was a major drop zone for old, random and leftover decor.  It was a total hodgepodge and the last place I ever wanted to clean, decorate or spend time.   Now with my kids getting older (they are eleven and thirteen!) the toys are pretty much nonexistent and I've been able to clean out and update the basement.  I've added some of my favorite vintage finds and have been slowly turning it into a space I actually enjoy.  It still needs to be functional for our family (the kids do still have some toys and I work from home), but I've been able to incorporate multifunctional pieces that are both stylish and practical....

A Simple Vintage Modern Basement Office

Creating a beautiful vintage modern office in a basement living room.  A month ago, I shared that  major changes are coming to our little house .  In order for those changes to happen, I had to move my office from the addition to the basement.  I knew I wouldn't be able to keep everything that was in my previous office space ,  but I did keep a few of my favorite pieces to create the perfect vintage modern basement office.  ...

Do It Yourself: Beautiful Staircase Board and Batten

Adding board and batten is the easiest and most inexpensive way to add interest to a basic basement staircase! THE BASEMENT BOARD AND BATTEN STAIRCASE IS DONE!!! You guys, I can't even tell you how good it feels to type those words.    Refinishing our basement stairs and adding board and batten to the walls has been a project I've wanted to do ever since moving into our home over 12 years ago.  It's also been one of those projects that I just could not get motivated to finish.  I was so unmotivated that I decided to proclaim on Instagram (to hold myself accountable) that I was giving myself two weeks to complete this half-finished project.  I'm happy to report that I not only finished the molding, but I did it in less than two weeks and it looks amazing.  ...

IKEA Hack: How to Turn a Bookcase into Lockers

An IKEA bookcase gets a huge makeover to resemble the look of storage lockers.   It's been a couple weeks since I've shared a DIY project , but I'm back talking about tools, paint and hardware!  Today, I'm sharing how I turned our 16 cubby IKEA Expedit bookcase into lockers (AKA a bookcase with doors). In my dream world, I would have a beautiful set of large lockers lining the wall of our basement.  The problem is, I can't find a set that I love for a price that I'm willing to pay. That's when I decided to give up the idea of lockers and turn our current IKEA bookcase into something that better fits the style and decor of our basement.  I took inspiration from my  crate lockers and now all the toys are neatly tucked away behind beautiful closed doors.  ...

A Modern Classic Christmas Fireplace Mantel

This is the first winter decorating our  freshly painted fireplace and I couldn't wait to deck it out for Christmas!  The rest of the basement may not be complete (who needs baseboards anyway), but thanks to  The Home Depot  I now have a fireplace that's complete and fully decorated for Christmas.  I shared yesterday that I was chosen to participate in the Holiday Style Challenge and was given the "challenge" to decorate my mantel for Christmas.  I used some of the items Home Depot sent and also purchased a  Christmas countdown and who could resist a cherry stained car hauling a Christmas tree ?   ...

Basement Progress: Completed Bar

I feel like it's been forever since I shared an update on our basement makeover.  Unfortunately, it's currently still a disaster thanks to a major garage project that forced us to move everything to the basement.  Thankfully, the garage is now complete and I can finally focus on getting our basement back in order.   The bar had been piled with project materials, tools and odds and ends and I finally had enough.  I cleared off the counter, grabbed a can of spray paint, gave the handles an update and finally decorated and finished the space.  ...

Basement Progress: The Fireplace Wall is Complete!

Affiliate links have been used for your convenience.  For more information visit my disclosure policy. Happy Monday! I made some major progress on the basement this weekend and can't believe the makeover is almost complete.   Thank goodness I didn't tackle this project for the One Room Challenge or I would have been WAY over schedule, haha.  I still have a lot of little projects to complete (staining and installing the quarter round, paint touch ups, decorating and finishing the board and batten on the steps), but I can definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel! Today, I'm talking all about the fireplace wall and how much I love my new mixed metal bookcase . ...

How to Make Giant Flash Card Wall Art

I hope you all had a wonderful Fourth of July full of family, friends, cookouts and fireworks!  I am so excited to share this project with you all today!  It's been on my "To Do" list for months and I couldn't be happier to have it finished and turn out better than I imagined.  My kids art table is used daily and I wanted to create a space that was just for them.  I've always loved the look of these handmade family math signs, but at $121 a piece buying them was out of the question.  The good thing is I knew I could easily make my own wood flash cards for a fraction of the price.  SUPPLIES NEEDED Affiliate links have been used for your convenience.  For more information visit my disclosure policy here.   - Precut Birch Plywood 1/8 x 12 x 24  - 14 feet of 1/2 x 3/4 Pine - White Chalk Paint - Minwax Espresso Stain - Sliding Compound Miter Saw (I have this one) - Wood Glue - Permanent Marker - Bla......

From Carpet to Hardwood: How to Easily Transform Your Stairs

Wow, did this weekend fly by!  My husband and I got to enjoy a nice dinner and evening alone for our anniversary (thanks mom and dad for keeping the kids overnight), we took the kids swimming, 4-wheeling in the woods and I busted my butt removing carpet and refinishing the basement stairs.  Let me tell you, refinishing stairs with two young kids is no easy task.   No matter how many times I told them not to use the stairs they used them anyway.   Thank goodness I still have a baby gate, haha.  It definitely tested my patience and pushed me to get this project done faster.  ...

Basement Makeover: Mosaic Subway Tile Backsplash

It's time for another basement makeover update!  In case you missed it,  the floor has been ordered, the plank wall is complete and now the mosaic subway tile backsplash is finished. Before I get to the tile I wanna back up and share the back story of this space.   The previous owner of our house "finished" the basement, but it was certainly not my style or taste.  The walls were covered in dark paneling, the drop ceiling was dated and the dark vinyl floor made for a cold and unwelcoming space.  It was a slow process, but over time we eventually tore out the paneling and drop ceiling then moved the bathroom down about 4 feet to make room for a bar. ...

I nailed, caulked and painted the last few boards yesterday and didn't even let the paint dry before I was adding new decor to the space. ...

Basement Makeover : Plank Wall Progress and Freshly Painted Door

Hey, hey....I hope you all had a fabulous weekend!  It's finally been warm enough that we were able to eat outside and enjoy the beautiful spring weather. I was really hoping to have the basement plank wall finished, but I still have one row of boards to add before I call this project complete.  I probably would have been able to finish if I didn't get sidetracked cleaning and painting the basement window and door.  Regardless of whether or not it's complete, I still wanted to show you how the space is coming along. ...
