How to Condition and Restore Leather Furniture

Learn how to beautifully clean, condition, and restore old, dry, and damaged leather furniture! Last week, I drove out of state to pick up a pair of leather Restoration Hardware Churchill chairs. It was a long drive and as I tend to do, I bought them solely based on a few online pictures.  Thankfully, the chairs were in wonderful worn vintage condition, but in desperate need of a little cleaning and conditioning.  I did a little research and found the perfect leather conditioner that was affordable, easy to use, and instantly revived the chairs back to life!  SUPPLIES NEEDED TO RESTORE LEATHER FURNITURE - Leather CPR 2-in-1 Leather Cleaner and Conditioner  (free from harsh chemicals!) - Sponge  - Cotton rag - Protective gloves (optional) I held my breath as I stepped out of my truck and into the auction house.  My biggest fear buying something sight unseen is that it smells.  You know the smells I'm talking about.  The ones that are nearly im......

How to Remove Rust From Porcelain

Learn how to clean rust from porcelain using simple household ingredients!  Have you ever overlooked something because it was dirty and rusty?  The other week, I bought a collection of antique porcelain fence insulators for a future holiday project.  They were coated in a fair amount of rust, but since I don't come across porcelain insulators often,  I took the chance of being able to remove the unwanted rust. Thankfully, I was able to remove the majority of the rust with the help of a few common household ingredients and a little elbow grease. SUPPLIES NEEDED TO REMOVE RUST FROM PORCELAIN - Lemon or lime juice (I used lime because that's what I had on hand) - Baking Soda - Stiff bristle toothbrush - Pumice stone  - Warm Water - Bowl  HOW TO REMOVE RUST FROM PORCELAIN Porcelain is a hard material but is still susceptible to scratching.  To avoid causing damage, a pumice stone and hard bristle toothbrush are best to use for cleaning and removing rus......

How to Get The Perfect Raw Wood Finish

Get the perfect raw wood finish and seal and protect furniture WITHOUT darkening the beautiful different types of wood.   Are you a natural wood/stained furniture lover or prefer the look of painted furniture ? I'm typically a "scuff up furniture and paint" kind of girl, but now and then, I get the itch to refinish  a piece of furniture to its natural wood finish.  There's nothing better than allowing the beautiful natural wood of furniture to shine.   Recently, I bought this little side table from a local auction (find my favorite used furniture sources HERE ) that was screaming for a raw wood look.  Granted, it would have been much easier and quicker to slap on a few coats of paint and call it a day, but something about this piece told me the raw wood needed to shine. ...

How to Master the Perfect Pillow Combinations

Mix and match throw pillows like a pro with these no fail tips and combinations!  I probably change, rearrange and mix and match throw pillows more often than anyone I know.  They are by far my favorite way to inject style and bring new life to our home.  I keep my spaces neutral, so pillows allow me to bring in lots of contrast, texture and patterns.  Remember, neutral doesn't have to be boring.  Varying the style, texture, shape and material helps keep things interesting. Since I'm always moving pillows from room to room and couch to couch, I thought I would share my 10 favorite no fail pillow combinations and tricks to style pillows like a pro. ...

T.J. Maxx Finds & Shopping Secrets

Happy Friday! I'm a bit embarrassed to admit this, but I just found out that you can shop T.J. Maxx online !!!  How did I not know this???  I blame it on the fact that I have FIVE HomeGoods and THREE T.J. Maxx stores within 30 minutes from my house.  Who needs to shop online when you can head straight to the store?  Don't tell my husband, but I'm usually in one of our local stores at least once a week.  You have to shop often to get the best deals, right? Regardless if I shop online or in store, I definetely buy my fair share of decor (and clothes!) from T.J. Maxx. Do you remember my fall mudroom? The pillow, throw and orange pumpkin were all purchased from T.J.Maxx.  ...

{Quick Tip} How to Easily Clean Hardened Wax Brushes

Quick and easy steps to save your dried out wax paint brushes and get them looking like new again.    Last week, was the first time in almost 3 years that I completely took a break from my day job AND blogging.  I had no posts scheduled,  no DIY projects planned and no paperwork to complete. Instead, I enjoyed the beach, sun and time with my family. With that being said, I did miss blogging, getting dirty and chatting with you all!  As soon as I walked in the door and unpacked I threw on my paint clothes and finished painting the Goodwill dresser in the basement. There's no rest for the weary in this household! Affiliate links have been used. After I was done painting and ready to apply the wax I realized my wax brush had hardened, dried out and desperately needed cleaning.   If you use chalk paint and wax to paint furniture then you know these brushes are not cheap.  I paid around $30 for mine, but it has lasted me through countless proj......
