{Basement Makeover} Paint and Floor Progress

Happy Tuesday!  I hope you had a fabulous Memorial Day weekend. It's been a few weeks since I've shared an update on the basement, so I thought I would give you a peek at how things are coming along.   The progress isn't pretty, but it's progress non the less. Removing the nasty carpet and prepping the floor proved to be very time consuming.   It involved lots of furniture rearranging and manual labor, which made it really hard to get motivated.   I had tack strips to remove, loose vinyl to repair, holes to fill and a floor to level.  It was far from fun, but completely necessary. ...

Taming the Zebra. Vintage Inspired Wood Storage Boxes

Remember when teased bangs, scrunchies and side ponytails were in style?  How about acid washed jeans, shoulder pads, fanny packs and stirrup pants?  Yup, there are quiet a few fashion trends that I rocked in my adolescent years that I would love to forget.  You know what else I would like to forget?  The phase where I thought it was cool to decorate my home in zebra print.  What was I thinking? Enter exhibit A, two wood zebra boxes. For years they sat on our brick fireplace hearth collecting dust.  I actually forgot about them until I started working on the basement and clearing the space for the new floor.   I loved the overall shape and style of the boxes, but that horrible shinny zebra print had to go.  I have nothing against zebras, but they belong in the wild, not in my home. ...

Luckett's Spring Market Recap (2016)

We've had three weeks of rain, so it was no surprise the forecast called for rain on Saturday.  My mom and I hesitated making the hour long drive to The Old Lucketts Store , but in the end I decided a little rain wasn't going to stand in our way.  I pulled out my gungi boots (for those of you that don't speak our family language that is my dad's made up word for heavy duty boots, aka my rain boots) and set out to find some cool vintage finds. Grab your coffee and take a seat, this post is gonna be long my friends. ...

The best IKEA items to create a beautiful and stylish home on a budget!  I recently took a trip to IKEA (we are lucky to have two within a 45-minute drive!) to look at sofas and pick up a few decor items for the basement.  Despite what you may think about the quality of their products, IKEA has unbeatable prices on home decor and organizing supplies.   They also have awesome products perfect for hacking and updating to create custom and personalized home decor .  I'm always drawn to the same items when I visit and thought it might be helpful to share a few of my favorite and best IKEA items to buy.  You can find even more must buy IKEA decor items HERE !  ...

Organizing Craft Supplies with IKEA's RASKOG Utility Cart

Happy Monday!  Why do the weekend days seem so much shorter than the rest of the week?  By the time Sunday night rolls around I'm always wondering what the heck happened to the weekend. Although I managed to get to IKEA on Saturday and work on the basement a little on Sunday, I didn't get nearly enough accomplished.  Such is life I guess. Speaking of IKEA, I realized this weekend that I never shared my IKEA RASKOG cart that I bought over a year ago.  There are a ton of great uses for this little versatile cart, but I decided to use mine for mobile craft storage.   ...

How to Make Vintage Inspired Clay Locker Tags {Monthly DIY Challenge}

Affiliate links have been provided for convenience.  For more information, see my full disclosure  here. It's Monthly DIY Challenge time! This month's challenge product was "Air-Dry Clay" and let's just say it was an interesting product to work with.  I've never worked with this type of clay before and it clearly shows in my lack of clay molding skills, ha!  The user (aka myself) was clearly not trained in working with children's clay.  I think I better stick to painting and power tools for now on :) I'm just gonna admit defeat right from the get go with this project.  I thought the idea was great, my execution....not so much.  ...

Basement Makeover: Mosaic Subway Tile Backsplash

It's time for another basement makeover update!  In case you missed it,  the floor has been ordered, the plank wall is complete and now the mosaic subway tile backsplash is finished. Before I get to the tile I wanna back up and share the back story of this space.   The previous owner of our house "finished" the basement, but it was certainly not my style or taste.  The walls were covered in dark paneling, the drop ceiling was dated and the dark vinyl floor made for a cold and unwelcoming space.  It was a slow process, but over time we eventually tore out the paneling and drop ceiling then moved the bathroom down about 4 feet to make room for a bar. ...
