{Garage Progress} New lighting and Doors

The garage is finally moving along and tons of progress is being made.  That makes me one happy girl!  Now, if only I could get the smelly dumpster out of our front yard. The electrician came yesterday, the roof should be done this week, drywall will be installed next week, and the garage doors will be installed on the 17th. Last week the correct trusses were finally delivered and the kitchen/mudroom addition was framed.  We were also able to install the mudroom door and new hardware.   I ended up going with this set from Home Depot for both the mudroom and front door. I've also been searching for columns to install on the little porch area to hide the electrical box.  I haven't found any that I like, so were looking into custom built square columns.  Not to be confused with the "custom" built down spout. (inside the mudroom/kitchen) The full glass door was not my first choice, but my husband really wanted as much light to come through......

How to Make the Perfect Pallet Pumpkins

Free pallet wood makes for the perfect fall décor when stacked into beautiful rustic pumpkins.   Fall is just around the corner and that means it's almost time for all the fall festivals and activities.  Some of my fondest memories are playing with my kids in the leaves and going to the local pumpkin patch for a hayride and pumpkin picking.  With pumpkins on my mind and pallets in the yard, I decided to combine the two and make rustic, whitewashed pallet pumpkins. I started by cutting the boards apart with a circular saw. Once I had the boards cut from the pallet I started cutting them into smaller pieces.   I wanted the pumpkins to look rustic, so I didn't worry about my lines being straight or measuring.   Plus, it was about to downpour and I had about 2 minutes before the rain was about ruin my project.  There was no time for perfection.  I layered the wood until it formed a shape that resembled a pumpkin.  Once I was happy wi......

"A" New Fall Wreath

A moss covered initial wreath perfect for fall! I know, I know, it's not even September and I'm already talking about Fall.  Hey, at least I haven't gone straight from Summer to Christmas like the department stores.  In my defense, school started yesterday and in my eyes, that means Summers over. Whomp, Whomp. I guess I can't complain too much since Fall is one of my favorite seasons to decorate for and I just can't wait to get started on my long list of projects.  While on vacation a few weeks ago I took some supplies with me to start working on my Fall wreath, particularly covering up this plan boring letter "A" with some moss. I've never worked with moss before and had no idea it would make such a mess.  Looking back, I should have did this project outside to minimize the clean up.
