How to Make Paint Look Like Concrete

The most inexpensive and easiest way to paint anything to look like concrete!

It's been MONTHS since I shared a Dollar Store DIY, but today I'm back sharing a simple budget-friendly craft.  How to paint plastic to look like concrete!

I love a good Dollar Tree makeover, so when I saw a variety of plastic planters at my local store I knew right away I wanted to give them a concrete inspired makeover.  With just a few simple supplies (that I had on hand!) I was able to give plastic planters the perfect faux concrete look.

- Rustoleum Stone Gray Spray Paint

- Sponge
- Cardboard or Dropcloth

(You don't necessarily need to use these specific paints/colors.  You can use whatever light gray, dark gray and white paint you have on hand.)

Dollar Tree had a bunch of different styles of planters to choose from.  I picked one that I thought I could paint to look the most like concrete.

STEP ONE:
Lightly sand plastic planter with 400 grit sandpaper.

STEP TWO:
Spray plastic planter with a light coat of Zinsser Shellac spray primer

STEP FOUR:
Use a sponge to dab on dark gray paint in various areas around the planter.

STEP FIVE:
While the dark gray paint is still drying, randomly dab white paint onto the plastic planter.   This creates depth and dimension and a natural concrete look.

Apply white paint over gray paint
STEP SIX:
Blend the two colors together, making sure to wipe the paint in multiple directions.
