Most Popular Posts of 2015!!!

Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a merry Christmas and found time to relax an enjoy time with family.  Our house looked like a toy store exploded, but I'm slowly getting things back in order. Before I dive head first into 2016, I wanted to recap some of my favorite and most popular projects of 2015.  There's nothing more motivating than looking back and seeing all that you've accomplished. ...

2015 Christmas Card Display

Happy Monday!  Did everyone get their shopping and wrapping done this weekend?  I still have a bit of wrapping to do, but I'm getting there.  I'm such a procrastinator and can't get motivated to do anything other than veg out on the couch with wine and a good Christmas movie. My all time favorite is Prancer and I'm pretty sure I've watched it at least three times already.  I have a feeling I've got a few long nights ahead of me, but it will all be worth it when I see the excitement on my kids faces Christmas morning. It's going to be pretty quiet around the blog this week, but I do have two quick projects (if you even want to call them projects) to share before I take a break to spend time with my family. ...

15 Creative DIY Gift Ideas

Stylish and creative handmade gifts that everyone will love!  It's Friday and that means there is exactly one week until Christmas. ONE WEEK!  I'm usually incredibly excited at this point, but this year I just can't get in the mood.  I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that I still have to finish shopping, wrap gifts and get my house in order.  Does anyone else get the urge to purge like crazy this time of year?  Last weekend I did manage to trash or donate a bunch of things we either don't want, need or use, but I still have more crap I'd like to get rid of.  Knowing an abundance of toys will soon be flooding into our home is a little frightening. Where the heck am I going to put everything? Since this is the last weekend before Christmas I'm hoping to squeeze in a few DIY gifts between hosting friends and cleaning house.  If you're also planning on giving handmade gifts, but aren't quite sure what to give, these 14 creative ideas a...

{Trash to Treasure} Goodwill Bread Box Makeover

As promised, the Christmas talk is on hold and I'm back sharing one of my favorite kinds of projects, Trash to Treasure makeovers! It's no surprise that I love thrift shops and looking for good deals.  I'm not afraid to tackle making over a piece that's damaged, dated or just plan ugly.  Most of the items I buy are ones that the average person wouldn't even give a second glance.  They tend to be overlooked and marked down after weeks of not being sold.  These are the pieces I buy and love and these are the ones that make the best Trash to Treasure makeovers! ...

Holiday Decorating For Less

This past week has been full of Christmas decor and projects, so I thought it would only be appropriate to end the week with a few thrifty holiday decorating ideas.  If you're anything like me then I'm sure you love decking your halls for the holiday's, but hate spending a lot of money doing so.  If you think it can't be done, I'm here to tell you it most certainly can. ...

Burlap and Flannel Christmas Wreath {Monthly DIY Challenge}

It's time for another Monthly DIY Challenge!  This month's theme was "wreaths" and to be honest I'm not really a wreath kind of girl.  I'm also not one to back out of a challenge, so I bit the bullet and threw something together.   Is it even a surprise that I ended up using my favorite flannel?   I've used this same red and gray flannel throughout this year's Christmas decorating and don't think I'll ever get sick of it. I mean really, what's cozier than soft flannel?  Add in the pop of red and you have the perfect combination.   ...

DIY Flannel Christmas Bulbs {Home For Christmas Blog Hop}

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend!  I was able to take the kids to see Santa as well as finish up some shopping and work on a few projects.  I've been in full blown Christmas mode lately, but I promise I've got some great non holiday projects coming up.  Until then, I'm thrilled to be participating in another  blog hop hosted by  Hometalk  and  County Living ! I've been really drawn to using red in my Christmas decor this year.  I might even have a slight obsession with a certain red and gray flannel that I used throughout my Christmas tour.   I love it so much that I couldn't resist using some leftover fabric to make a couple flannel Christmas bulbs.  ...

How to Make a Personalized Glass Bead Necklace

Turn glass stones from Dollar Tree into a personalized pendant necklace, perfect for gift giving! I don't know about you, but I love making personalized gifts for Christmas and other special oc casions.  There's just nothing more personal and meaningful than giving a thoughtful handmade gift.  Every year for Christmas, I like to make my mother and mother-in-law a personalized gift of our kids. I've made calendars, photo books and coasters in the past, but this year I decided to make something different.  I bought glass stones from Dollar Tree and made personalized glass bead necklaces.  ...

{Trash to Treasure} DIY Coffee Bar Sign

Yes, I have been making a crazy amount of signs lately.  No, I won't apologize.  Not when you snag the perfect $3.00 sign from Goodwill! I knew this sign was coming home with me the minute I spotted it on the shelf.  It was just begging for an update and I couldn't wait to bring it home and turn it into something more my style.  I'm sure someone probably worked very hard staining, painting and stenciling this sign, but I wasn't about to let that stop me from giving it a little update.  Anything at Goodwill is fair game for a makeover anyway, right? ...

10 Ideas For Repurposing Everyday Items

Creative ideas for repurposing everyday items! It's not uncommon for me to snag soup cans, cardboard boxes or glass jars from our recycling bin to repurpose into home decor.  I've turned tin cans into pumpkins , a spaghetti jar into a laundry room tip jar  and cereal boxes into desk dividers.  I've even used my kids leftover toy packaging to make a custom silhouette tray  for my daughter's room.  Sure, I've spent my fair share on craft supplies and other home decor items, but nothing beats creating something useful out of something free. Today I've rounded up 10 of my favorite repurposing projects that I hope will inspire you! ...

{Kitchen Update!} Smart Tile Backsplash

How to install and transform a room with peel and stick tiles!  A spur of the moment kitchen update got kicked into high gear when I stumbled upon an awesome product, peel and stick adhesive tiles from  Smart Tiles .  Have you all heard of them?  They aren't real tiles, but a peel-and-stick alternative that look just like real tiles. Believe me, I had absolutely zero plans to update our kitchen.  We're currently saving for an extensive kitchen renovation and spending money to update our current space seemed like a waste of money. That was until I got the urge to paint our dingy, chipped base cabinets.  It was a spur of the moment decision I made while my husband was out of town.  Of course, one thing always leads to another and painting the cabinets got me thinking about adding a subway tile backsplash.  I've installed tile before and knew I could do it, but didn't want to go through the trouble of renting a wet saw, buying grout an adhesive and making an abso...

DIY Vintage "Market" Sign and Kitchen Makeover Sneak Peek

How to make an easy and affordable farmhouse sign!  Wow, is it Monday already?  I always dread turning the clocks back and adjusting to the time change. It's definitely nice not waking up in the dark, but boy is it depressing driving home from work in the dark.  There's nothing more unmotivating than dark cold evenings.  I never considered myself a lazy person, but when the nights are dark and cold I definitely feel the urge to snuggle up on the couch with a blanket and do nothing.  Anyone else counting down the days until Spring already? Speaking of Spring, does anyone ever stop by local markets for fresh flowers and produce?  I usually don't make it out to them, but that didn't stop me from making my own DIY "Market" sign. I'm sure you have seen many different versions of these signs on Pinterest and in local shops, I know I have.  They always catch my eye and I knew I could make my own using materials I had around the house. ...

Emerald Green Dresser Makeover

A boring dresser gets a bright and bold makeover with emerald green paint and dark wax! I've always loved the look of emerald green, although the bright and bold color never jived with the cool blue and green tones in my home. That is, until now.  Adding our mudroom addition finally gave me a space to add a few pops of bright green into our home.  Lucky for me I also get to continue the color in my new office space (aka Studio). Up until recently, I've been doing blog work at the dining room table, which isn't the best situation. So, a few weeks ago I decided to take over the empty space that will eventually be part of our kitchen.  I'll lose my studio space once we start the kitchen renovation, but until then, I'm making this a fun and bright space that is not only functional but inspiring as well. ...

15 DIY Pumpkin Ideas to Try

Happy Friday!  Who's got big plans for the weekend?  My husband is finally home from his 500 mile bicycle trip and now it's my turn to enjoy some time with friends.  I'll be hanging out with a few of my best girlfriends for some bachelorette fun!  I can't wait to relax and enjoy some much needed girl time! Vintage Inspired Balsa Wood Number Tags {Monthly DIY Challenge}

Hey, hey....welcome back to another Monthly DIY Challenge!  On the second Wednesday of every month a group of some of my favorite blogger friends and I get together and challenge each other to create a project based on a particular theme or material.  This month's theme was craft wood and if you've been around this blog for awhile then you know I LOVE Balsa wood.  It's such a great craft/DIY product that is inexpensive and can easily be cut with the swipe of a razor blade. I've completed a few balsa wood projects in the past ( faux specimen cabinet, organized cork board  and  file magazine holders ) and lucky for me I had plenty scrap pieces laying around that I was determined to use.  I was also determined to make something that was A. useful and B. would make a great addition to our current décor.  I had no desire to make something that would get thrown in my craft closet to collect dust. ...

14 Thrifted Lamp and Light Makeovers

Great ideas for giving new life to used, thrifted and outdated lamps! Happy Friday!  I have some BIG plans for this weekend that I am really hoping to get accomplished. My husband will be away and we all know when the husband is away the wife will play, or should I say tear apart the house.  God love my husband, he never knows what he'll walk into when he comes home from a trip. The other day I shared a few of my recent Goodwill finds and thought it would be fun to share a round-up of thrifted lamp and light makeovers.  Stop in any Goodwill or thrift store and you'll be sure to find shelves full of these unwanted gems.  More than likely they'll be made of shiny brass with an 80's vibe.  If you're lucky enough you may even spot a few classic boob lights.  Most people don't realize the potential of these lights and make a big mistake, big, huge (anyone catch that movie reference? anyone?) by throwing away or donating them.  Lucky for us DIY'ers, we get t...

My Latest Goodwill Finds

It never fails, every time we come home from vacation something happens.  We have dealt with our basement flooding, our cat using the bathtub as a liter box and now our fridge decided to call it quits. We were unable to make repairs, so we spent Monday evening moving everything from the kitchen refrigerator to the garage one.  There's nothing like a broken fridge to make you realize how much of a food hoarder you are.  I can't believe I had 3 jars of opened pickles, 2 jars of opened cherries, 7 bags of shredded cheese and lord knows how many condiments and expired food, gross.  We're hoping it can be fixed, but in the meantime, I'll be getting a workout whenever I'm making lunches or cooking dinner.  I definitely took for granted having the fridge in the kitchen. As promised, the vacation talk is over and now it's back to DIY and decorating.  It's no surprise that I LOVE shopping at Goodwill and love the thrill of a good hunt.  I stop in a few times a mon...

Our Disney Vacation! {An Honest Disney Review}

SURPRISE, we went to Disney World last week! It was a trip we had been planning for over a year and I cannot believe it's over.  It was an amazing week and I am so incredibly thankful we were able to share this magical time with our kids.  It was pure joy seeing them get "arms flailing, giggly excited" over a fun ride or character meeting.  I will always cherish our Disney moments and they will be memories that I'll remember forever :) As a way for me to remember our vacation and hopefully help someone else who is planning a trip I am recapping our week.  If you're here for DIY and decorating tips don't worry, I'll be back to posting about DIY as soon as I recover from vacation mode, I promise! ...

Thrifty DIY Mudroom Reveal

The mudroom is complete!!! Let's just take a minute to let that sink in. ..... ..... ..... You have no idea how long I have waited to say those words!  This room has been a work in progress for over a year and I am thrilled that it is FINALLY complete.  I say the word "complete" loosely since this is just a temporary makeover until we tear down the wall and extend our kitchen. When that time comes the mudroom floor will be ripped up and replaced with real hardwood floors. The walls will be painted, crown will be added as well as built in cubbies and a bench area.  Until then, I am calling the mudroom complete. Some of you may be wondering why we spent money completing this space if it's only going to get torn apart in a year or two.  Well, when you have two kids and a dog walking on bare plywood, tracking dust and tiny wood pieces in the house, you quickly start to lose your mind.  To me, spending a few hundred dollars to make this space use...

$5.00 Tea Towel Pillow

If you don't like sewing or are just starting out then this project is for you!  It's not only super easy an inexpensive, but it takes very minimal (and I mean minimal) sewing skills.  Seriously, I think it took me at most 5 minutes to sew this $5.00 Tea towel pillow.   It all started on one of my recent HomeGoods trips (you can find the recap on my "Let's Go Shopping" round up).   I loved the colors and fringe and knew right away it would make the perfect pillow. Are you ready for the difficult tutorial?  (did you catch the sarcasm?) ...

Quick and Easy Book Page Garland {VIDEO!}

Happy Sunday!  We finally got rain yesterday after weeks of a dry spell, which meant Saturday was spent lounging and being lazy.  Since it was too dark to take pictures for my fall home tour, I decided it would be fun to tape my very first video!  It's a super easy, inexpensive project that only uses a few items and is incredibly versatile. Here's what you'll need: *denotes affilate links - Card stock- To make your template - Vintage book pages (I used pages from one of my old Reader's Digest Books.  You can find them for next to nothing at thrift stores) - Jute * - Elmer's adhesive backed letters * - Elmer's glue stick * - Hole Punch * This is such a fun and quick project that's perfect for just about any occasion from holiday's to birthday's, the possibilities are endless! Vaseline Distressed Memo Board {Monthly DIY Challenge}

It's Monthly DIY Challenge time!  For those of you new around here, every month a few of my bloggy pals get together and challenge each other to create a project based on a particular product or theme.   This months theme was pegboard and to be honest I wasn't too excited.  All the pegboard projects that came to mind either had already been done before or involved the traditional organizing projects.  Don't get me wrong, I love organizing with pegboard, but since our garage isn't to the organizing point yet I had to get creative.   ...

A Meaningful Living Room Update

You know the feeling you get when you walk into a store and your eye is immediately drawn to a piece that you just have to have?  A piece that no matter what you do you just can't get it out of your head.  It could be a rug, a picture, an amazing pillow, a unique vintage item, anything.  I got that very feeling when I was browsing online and came upon a  numbered eye chart .  I had such a strong feeling about this piece and knew it would be the perfect addition to our living room. It might look like an ordinary eye chart to most, but to me it means more, so much more. It's not too often that I get personal on the blog, but today I wanted to share a bit about my son's journey.  This child has no fear and is constantly keeping us on our toes.  Not only has he been rushed to the hospital for an allergic reaction, but he has also broken his clavicle, bumped and bruised his head more times than I can count and suffered through a pretty serious eye injury.  You can s...

Updated Pallet Wood Pumpkins

How to make rustic DIY pallet pumpkins perfect for fall!  Happy Monday!  I don't know if it's because the kids headed back to school today or the cooler evening temps, but I am so ready for fall.  It's probably my favorite season and I can't wait to turn off the air, sleep with the windows open and snuggle up in the evenings with a blanket. I even went as far as pulling out the fall bins from storage this weekend.  No, I haven't started decorating, although I did get the urge to update my popular pallet pumpkins  with a fresh new look.  I'm all about neutral decorating for the seasons, but I thought a muted pop of orange would be a great addition to this year's fall decor. ...

Recycled Tin Can Pumpkins

My kids are going back to school on Monday, mums are being sold in stores and September is right around the corner.   In my book that can only mean one thing, fall is right around the corner.  Whether you like it or not, days are already getting shorter and the mornings a little cooler.  I personally happen to love this time of year and look forward to the leaves changing color, and spending time at all the wonderful fall festivals. Every year I look forward to creating a few fall projects and this year was no different.  My pallet pumpkins  are going to be hard to top, but I have plans for another pallet pumpkin project.  I already asked my husband to bring me home some pallets, so hopefully I'll be able to get started on those soon.  In the meantime, I grabbed a leftover tin can from the recycle bin and got to work creating a super easy pumpkin. ...

5 Easy and Impactful Decorating Tips

By no means am I an expert when it comes to decorating.  I never took formal classes on interior decorating or read any design books for that matter.  I'm just an average girl who loves to decorate and redecorate until I am completely happy with a space.  I pretty much learned what I love and what works best in our home by trial and error.  As a result, I have slowly started falling in love with my home and thought I would share a few of my favorite decorating tips and tricks. 1. HANG CURTAIN PANELS HIGH AND WIDE. Covering up windows not only limits natural light, but also makes a room appear much smaller.  To maximize ceiling height and natural light I hang all of my curtains high and wide.  That means the curtain rod is usually halfway between the crown molding and window molding and the edge of the panels skim the edge of the window.  If your curtains are currently covering the majority of your window I challenge you to hang them wider.  I promise the room will suddenly f...

{Friday Favorites} 10 Incredibly Beautiful White Bathrooms

Beautiful white bathrooms that are full of contrast and character!  Happy Friday!  We're heading to the beach for our son's 5th birthday and I'm really looking forward to spending some quality time relaxing with friends and family.   It's our last getaway before school starts and I plan to take full advantage.   Even though I'm sad to see summer end and my kids go back to school, it also means that I'll have a full day a week all to myself.  I see lots of organizing and DIY projects being completed in the near future. Last weekend while out shopping I spotted a new shower curtain that I just  had to have.  The only problem is that it doesn't fit our current decor in the bathroom.  My solution?  Instead of taking the curtain back like any sane person would do I have decided to update my entire hall bathroom.  Yes, all because of a shower curtain.  It doesn't take much for me to have an excuse to redecorate around here. Although, our bathroom isn...

Leather Bottom Fabric Tote {Monthly DIY Challenge}

It's the second Wednesday of the month and that means it's time for another monthly DIY challenge!  This month's theme was fabric and I was really looking forward to dusting off my sewing machine.  I feel like it's been f.o.r.e.v.e.r. since I sewed anything and I couldn't wait to get started on making something useful. I've always loved the look of leather bottom bags and this month's challenge was the perfect excuse to buy some fun fabrics and get sewing.   Real leather is super expensive, so I ended up going with a leather alternative, which was still a bit pricey at $35.00 a yard.  Jo-Ann's had cheaper options, but I had my mind set on using a specific cognac color and type of leather.  The less expensive fabrics just felt and looked too cheap for the look I was going for.  Thank goodness for 40% off coupons! ...

{Let's Go Shopping} Decor Inspiration from Target

Oh my, have you all been to Target lately?  Our Target completely rearranged their home section and has an amazing stock of new inventory.  I once again spent my lunch hour gawking at all the new decor items wishing I had space and use for them in my own home. Of course before I got to the home section I had to take my usual detour through the office supply aisle.  Target always hits the mark with their amazing office supplies and don't even get me started on the fun gold accessories! ...

DIY Weekly Cork Board Organizer

I admit, I am not the most organized person.  My style of organizing involves stacking papers in piles or throwing stray toys in bags.  Yeah, not the best solution and I surely don't recommend this type of organizing.   Unfortunately, this cork organizer won't help with my paper hoarding, but it will help me stay organized from week to week.  With the start of a new school year fast approaching I needed a way to keep up with my kids schedule and this cork organizer is the perfect solution.  Once they get their class schedules I'll update the board to keep track of each of their daily school activities.  No one wants to be wearing a dress on gym days or brand new clothes on art days. ...

A fresh new look in the dining room

I hope you all had a wonderful Fourth of July!  We had a blast celebrating at multiple cookouts with friends, family and lots of fireworks.  (or bang, bangs according to my four year old) In the middle of all the festive activities I did manage to squeeze in a spur of the moment painting session, which ended up turning into more painting.  It's definietly true what they say, "one thing leads to the next."  It all started with me getting the bright idea to paint our atrium doors the same Sherwin Williams Iron Ore that's on our front door and mudroom doors .  Although, unlike the other spaces, I wasn't getting excited about the end result.  I knew I loved the door color, but something just seemed off.  Something had to change and I knew it wasn't going to be the dark doors.  It was the walls, they looked horrible against the doors and had to go. Before I get to all the pretty after pictures, let me back up and remind you what this space looked like...

Decorating with Glass Vases and Demijohns

If you have been following along on my blog for any length of time then I'm sure you have noticed a few common trends when it comes to how I like to decorate.  Of course I love looking for deals and scouring the clearance aisles, but I also love decorating with books and glass vases or demijohns. They make the perfect addition to any table and look great alone or in a grouping. Unfortunately,  I haven't been able to find an authentic demijohn that I was willing to spend money on, but I have been able to pick up some other great glass vases.  Come to think of it, all my vases were purchased from HomeGoods and were less than $12.99 a piece.  #score (Please Pin from the original source or the image above, thank you.) ...
