Simple Spring Decorating with Dollar Tree Flowers

It's been a rough weekend at our little house.  If you follow me on Instagram then you may be aware that we received some devastating news about our seven year old Golden Retriever.  Unfortunately, her prognosis is not good and we are preparing for the worst.  She is currently at a veterinary hospital where she has been since Friday getting treatment to flush our her Kidneys.  There are still a lot of unknowns and at this point, we are taking one day at a time.   Since we were all a little down this weekend (and there are no flowers outside in sight) I took the opportunity to cheer up the house with a few spring blooms.  The Dollar Tree may not be the first place you think of when it comes to faux flowers, but hear me out.  They actually have a pretty good selection of floral picks and some look surprisingly real.   There's also the fact that they are only a dollar and you can't get much cheaper than that.   ...

Free Spring Poppy Printables

I think Maryland missed the memo that yesterday was the first day of Spring.  The days are longer, the sun is shining brighter, but snow still lingers.  Every now and then we get a taste of Spring and I'm soaking up every last minute.  It's amazing how much a little fresh air and sun streaming into your home can brighten your mood.  You know what else can brighten your mood?  Pretty FREE printables! ...

Garage Progress: Painted and Organized Garage Entrance

Unfortunately, our weekend was far from relaxing.  I don't handle stress very well, so when an unexpected issue came up on Saturday I quickly became overwhelmed.  I've been open about my struggles with anxiety and Saturday was the first time in a long time that I actually felt sick from stress.  It doesn't happen as often anymore, but when it hits it's miserable.  I find that whenever I'm upset or stressed I tend cope by cleaning and organizing.  This weekend, I took my stress out on the garage entrance. I know, garages aren't the most glamorous spaces and neither is this makeover.  It's just an ordinary garage entrance that got a little update with paint and stain.  It's not dramatic or pin-worthy, but it has come a long way and I wanted to share how a little paint and effort can make a big impact.   Here's what our garage entrance (the door leads to our mudroom) looked liked before.   ...

Creative and Inviting Doormats You Can Make Yourself

There's a fresh coat of snow on the ground here in Maryland, but that's not stopping me of thinking of Spring.  This year, I'd love to create a DIY doormat for our front door and wanted to share a few of my favorites that I've come across.  Some are complete DIY ideas and others are easy ways to update plain, inexpensive rubber or coir mats (IKEA sells them for $4.99!)  It doesn't matter what your skill level is, there's cute ideas for everyone.  ...

How to Make Dollar Tree Carrots Look Impressively Real

How to turn a Dollar Tree carrot jump rope into perfect farmhouse spring decor!  I know it's not the first Monday of the month, but I wanted to share this quick Dollar Tree makeover in case anybody wanted to make them for spring or Easter.    I have to thank my mom for this quick Dollar Tree project.  I was talking to her on the phone the other day when she mentioned Dollar Tree brought back their carrot jump ropes.  What???  I didn't know about them last year, so I jumped at the chance to head to Dollar Tree to pick up a few.  Did you see what I just did there?  The carrots on the end of the ropes are the perfect size and texture for creating faux carrots that look impressively real.   I know what you are probably thinking, carrots are not white.  Well, let's just pretend they are parsnips then, mmmkay?  I tend to lean towards more neutral decor in my home, so I opted to paint them white. If you prefer the look of traditional orange carrots then you can...

The Best lightweight Throw Blankets Perfect For Spring

It's FRIDAY, which means it's time for another addition of Five Friday Finds.  This weeks finds are all about adding the perfect lightweight throws for spring.  It's time to put away the heavy winter blankets and pull out a couple lightweight cotton, fringed throws. I decided to splurge on a few new throw blankets this year and I'm so glad I did.  They're great for adding color and texture to a space and I love snuggling under a gorgeous blanket during cool spring evenings. ...

Quick and Affordable Dollar Tree Succulent Pots

It's the first Monday of the month and time for another Dollar Store DIY!  Since spring is fast approaching I thought it would be appropriate to make easy painted terra cotta succulent planters.  The best part about this project is that almost all the main supplies came from the Dollar Tree, making this project super affordable.   If you're like me, you may even have most of these supplies on hand.  If not, at least these adorable little posts aren't expensive to make.  ...

Affordable Black and White Neutrals

My style has definetely changed and evolved over the years.  I've learned what I like and dislike and I finally feel like I've found my style.  It came through trial and error and a few decorating mistakes, but along the way I've also had a few successes, which helped me find my style.  It's still a work in progress, but one thing I know for sure is that I love and crave contrast.  I tend to mix styles of modern farmhouse and industrial, but one thing that's consistent is contrast.  I may not follow traditional decorating "rules" and I may mix styles and trends, but in the end the only thing that matters is what I truly love. Here's a little advice, follow your heart and forget the rest.  The only one who has to love what you do to your home is you! ...
