How to Turn an Old Dresser into a Vintage Inspired Map Cabinet

A dated dresser gets a vintage map cabinet inspired makeover with fresh new stain and hardware!

Remember the other week when I said I was busy working on a few furniture makeovers?  Do you also remember when I said I would not be refinishing another dresser anytime soon?  Well, that's because today's makeover totally kicked my butt.  It wasn't necessarily hard, just time consuming and rough working in a garage in 90 degree heat.  So, this one's for all you wood lovers out there who would rather see a piece of furniture refinished than painted.  I've mentioned before that you just know when a piece needs to be painted or refinished and this was one of those pieces that was worth the effort of refinishing.

This dated dresser transformed into such a gorgeous vintage inspired map cabinet that I decided to keep it for myself.   That's the one downfalls of buying and refinishing/restoring furniture to sell, you want to keep everything!

How to Make a Card Catalog From An IKEA Moppe

A basic IKEA Moppe storage chest gets an inexpensive makeover to resemble the look of a four drawer vintage card catalog.

If you have ever remotely perused Pinterest then you have more than likely come across many IKEA Moppe drawer hacks.  Updating, hacking and transforming these little drawers is nothing new, BUT I knew I had to update a set ever since coming across them years ago.  I looked for them every time I went to IKEA and every time they were never in stock.  Finally, last year our store had them and I stocked up.  I bought six with the idea in mind of making a large faux card catalog, but I nixed that idea after recently scoring a true vintage card catalog.   Not wanting to give up on these little Moppe drawers, I took just one set of four and turned them into a mini vintage card catalog.

Introducing Vintage by LHOF

Happy, happy Friday!

Do you remember the other week when I said I was crazy busy and took an unexpected week off blogging?  I mentioned that I was working on a new "project" and today,  I'm excited to share what I've been working on and what's been taking up so much of my time.

Many of you know that I share a booth with Cassie Bustamante at Sweet Clover Barn.  I've been having so much fun sprucing up furniture, hunting for vintage finds and decorating our booth that I decided to open an Etsy shop, Vintage by LHOF

Vintage by LHOF

Bringing life back to old vintage furniture, thrifting and shopping for deals is something I absolutely love, unfortunately, I only have so much room in my own home and I was quickly boarding hoarder status.  Opening a shop was the perfect solution and allows me both to shop and share with others.

Decorate entryway with black vintage scale

I tend to gravitate towards old scales, cameras, clocks and brass decor, but Vintage by LHOF will carry a variety of vintage decor.   Basically, anything that I love and would put in my own home is fair game for the shop.

I hope to add items weekly, so make sure to check the shop often to see what's new.  You can follow Vintage by LHOF on Instagram, favorite the shop on ETSY or subscribe to be the first to hear about new products in stock.

Subscribers will also receive a coupon code for 10% off their first purchase as well as receive special promotions just for being a subscriber.

I also added a new tab at the top of the blog where you can easily check out the shop to see what's new.

My goal is to keep Little House of Four and Vintage by LHOF separate.  LHOF will be a place where I share inexpensive makeovers, DIY projects, and affordable home decor inspiration.  The shop will simply be a place for me to share my love for unique and vintage decor.

I'd love to know what types of items you would like to see in the shop.  Shoot me an e-mail or comment below!

June Sale at Sweet Clover Barn

It's almost the third weekend of the month, which means it's time to share our space for Sweet Clover's June sale!

It's not too often that Cassie and I decorate with red (at the barn or in our own homes), but with Fourth of July right around the corner, we busted out some red and added it to our normally cool-toned space.  This month is all about white, wood tones, shades of blues and grays with a few splashes of red.  It's a beautiful mix of both our styles and I'm really happy with how everything came together.

Coastal Blue Vintage Empire Dresser Makeover

A beautiful antique empire dresser with curved drawers and turned details gets a makeover with Coastal Blue paint and creamy teardrop pulls.

Sorry for the sudden radio silence last week.  I ended up taking an unexpected break after spending way too much time driving around picking up furniture and working on a few involved makeovers.  After last week, I can confidently say, I don't plan on completely refinishing a large dresser anytime soon.  I do, however, plan on sharing a few furniture makeovers, an IKEA hack and living room and office updates very soon.

One of the makeovers I finished last week was a vintage empire dresser with beautiful curved drawers and turned details on the sides.   I was able to repair, sand, paint, stain, wax, photograph and get it up to Sweet Clover just in time for the annual June yard sale this weekend.  This is definitely one of those pieces that started out a little rough but had great bones and was so worth updating.

Friday Favorites: Black, White and Neutral Outdoor Decor

Stylish and affordable black, white and neutral decor to spruce up your outdoor space!

It's Friday and time for another edition of Friday Favorites!

Last year, I spruced up our deck with a new umbrella, rugs, cushions, and decor.  It was a major improvement from the previously torn cushions and moldy rugs, but there was still so much more that needed to be done.  This year, I'd love to paint the exterior doors Iron Ore, add more seating and a new larger table, install solar lights and overall make it a clean and enjoyable space for our family to enjoy.

A Beautiful Distressed Pale Gray Vintage Dresser Makeover

A beautiful distressed vintage dresser painted in a soft pale gray and accented with original hardware and dark wood stain.

I hope you had a lovely Memorial Day weekend!   We spent our days around the house, relaxing and working on projects and I wouldn't have had it any other way.  Since my husband had a few extra days off he helped me move furniture so I could finally photograph a few projects that I finished weeks ago.   Today, I'm happy to share a pale gray vintage dresser makeover that will be headed to Sweet Clover for their June sale.

This soft light gray is quickly becoming one of my favorite go-to colors and I think it fits this vintage Century dresser well, especially paired with the original brass hardware.
