Vintage Modern Mudroom Renovation Reveal

A simple mudroom gets a vintage modern makeover with custom molding and budget-friendly decor.

The other week, I shared a glimpse into our Mudroom, which was part of our kitchen and first-floor renovation that we started back in April.  It's been a loooong few months full of frustration, inconvenience and headaches, but I can honestly say, it's been worth all the trouble.

The mudroom turned out better than I could have imagined and I'm crazy excited to share the fully renovated space.  I used a lot of the same decor, but new flooring, custom wall treatment, paint and budget-friendly decor made this space cleaner and brighter for the perfect vintage-modern vibe.

If you remember, we started building the garage and mudroom/kitchen addition back in 2015 as part of phase one of the renovation.  The addition went through a lot of temporary changes (including being used as my office) while we saved for phase two of the renovation.

I love looking at before pictures, so let's take a look back at how our house looked before and during the demo and rebuilding phase of the mudroom.

After the mudroom and kitchen were framed and drywalled, I installed base and trim molding, painted the doors Iron Ore and laid vinyl flooring for an affordable and temporary solution to "finish" the space.

-MUDROOM BEFORE & DURING PHASE TWO RENOVATION-
In April, after a couple years of planning and saving, we were finally able to start phase two of the kitchen/first-floor renovation.

As part of the renovation, we tore down walls, opened up the mudroom to the kitchen and added hardwood floors throughout.

I had my contractor add crown molding and floor to ceiling battens on the mudroom walls then I painted everything Sherwin-William semi-gloss white.  I kept the doors Iron Ore and love the contrast of the bright white walls against the dark doors.

I brought in a few new decor pieces, including a black modern mirror and cool vintage EXIT sign that I scored for $10 from a vintage market.

I moved the old ivory and black dining room rug to the mudroom, reused a lot of my old decor and shopped my house to finish decorating the space.

The Work Hard and Be Nice to People artwork has moved around my house quite a bit, but I love having it in the mudroom.  It's a great reminder of how to approach the day.

The black and white hooks were a thrift store Anthropologie knock off project that I did WAY back in 2014.  They previously hung in our bedroom, but I decided to move them to the mudroom.

Unfortunately, there wasn't room for all five of my vintage theatre seats, so I broke them down and was able to use two in the mudroom.

I always thought the whitewashed finish on the brick chimney made it appear a little pink, so I gave it a fresh coat of flat white paint.

Our shoes get stored under the DIY leather tufted bench, but we hang all our jackets and sweatshirts in the hall closet.  That means I get to decorate and have fun with the hooks in the mudroom.

There are still two minor electrical issues that our electrician needs to complete, but other than that, I'm calling this room complete (for now).

A lot of the decor I used in the mudroom were thrift store, vintage market or HomeGoods finds, but if you're interested in any of the items you can get the look by clicking on the links below.

***UPDATE***
I finally found and updated the perfect set of lockers for the mudroom!  You can see them styled in the mudroom HERE
