Modern Industrial Motocross Boy Room Mood Board

Modern neutral motocross bedroom plans perfect for a little boy!

If you caught Friday's renovation update post then you know our house is currently empty, the floors are almost completed and I just finished painting Owen's rooms.

It's been over eight years since I painted his room and it desperately needed to be repainted.  His bed fits in a little alcove in his room, so you can imagine how dirty his walls have gotten over the years.  I'll spare you the details, but trust me when I say, his walls were pretty disgusting.

Owen has a lot of opinions about his room this time around, but I'm going to try and get away with what I can while also keeping his likes and interests in mind.   Motocross and riding his dirtbike and 4-wheeler are pretty much all that interests him, so a modern industrial motocross inspired bedroom will be perfect.

His room has pretty much stayed the same since he was a baby.  I did swap out his crib for a twin bed and his rocking chair for a DIY 2x4 industrial shelving unit, but not much else has changed in the last eight years.

I let him pick the color he wanted his room and he went with Sherwin-Williams Eider White.  His room is very small, so it was a great color to help keep the space light and bright without being too stark white.

Even though his room is on the small side I'm still considering painting his window Iron Ore.  I love contrast and the dark gray will pop against the white trim and light gray walls.

His bed perfectly fits in this little alcove, which leaves just enough space in the rest of his room for a dresser and either a small desk, chair or bookcase.

It's a small room but I know with smart planning and storage solutions it will end up being a great space for a little boy!

1. Mid Century Modern Dresser: I bought this gorgeous MCM dresser from a friend and thankfully, Owen has agreed to have it in his room.
2. Off White Moroccan Trellis Rug - A soft and neutral Morrocan inspired rug is the perfect neutral accent to ground the room.
3. Green Velvet Throw Pillow Cover- There will be a lot of black, white, gray and wood tones in his room, so the green velvet pillow will add a pop of color without being too overpowering.
4. Floor Lamp- There are no ceiling lights in the bedroom, so a floor lamp is a must.  I love that this one has a metal shade adding to the industrial vibe.
5. Outdoor Wall Sconce - A wall sconce over his bed will also add much needed light and be perfect for reading in bed.
6. Black Matted FramesMatted RIBBA IKEA frames are affordable and perfect for the patent wall art.
7. Motorcycle Patent Art - I wanted to add wall decor that was meaningful and expressed Owen's interests and these motorcycle patent prints were perfect.
8. Black Shiplap Wallpaper- Instead of a headboard, I'd love to add black shiplap wallpaper to the small wall behind his bed.
9. Duvet -  This $40 Duvet from IKEA is affordable and adds just enough gray to the space without being too overpowering.
10. Curtains- It's about time I replace the curtain from his nursery with something a little less frilly and I'm loving these dark green room darkening panels.
11. Metal Vertical Wall Organizer-  I already bought this metal wall shelf, which fits behind the door and is perfect for maximizing vertical storage.

  2. If you do decide to paint the window Iron Ore, can you please post a tutorial. I assume your windows are vinyl and I've often wondered how you paint them. Would love to do the same in my house.

    1. Our windows are actually wood and original to the house. They are a pain to paint, but easy since they require very little prep work.

  3. Looking forward to seeing the final result! Do you remember where you purchased the existing grey shade/blind?
