Please, tell me I'm not the only one who likes to make projects out of things that would otherwise get thrown away. It's not uncommon for me to save my kids toy packaging, cardboard, soup cans and jars in hopes of turning them into something useful. It's a slight problem that has added to the mess in the office/craft room :) So, of course I had to save the spaghetti sauce jar from our recent dinner the other night.
I wasn't sure what I was going to do with the jar, but knew it was too perfect to just be recycled. It ended up sitting on our kitchen counter for about a week until it finally hit me.....turn it into a my laundry room tip jar!
Now, I also know I'm not the only one who finds money in the laundry! Sometime's I'm lucky enough to find an occasional $10 or $20 bill, but normally it ends up being a quarter here and there. My laundry room was always a mess and the spare change always got thrown on top the dryer. Now that I'm all about organizing and making over the laundry room, my "tip" money needed a proper space.
After removing the label and cleaning the jar well, I sprayed a few light coats of Krylon's Jade in satin. I think this color is officially my new favorite spray paint color! Trust me, it looks even better in person.
After the paint was dry, I designed a label in PicMonkey and glued it to the front of the jar using Mod Podge.
Now I have a fun tip jar for my laundry room. My husband joked and said I should probably put a lock on it and now I'm thinking I may need to hide the jar. On second thought, maybe I'll just pocket the big bills :) What he doesn't know won't hurt him, right?
SUCH a cute idea Katie!!! And much cuter than the old bowl I've been using ;)
ReplyDeleteHa! Your bowl is much cuter than my previous method of just throwing the change on top dryer!
DeleteLove the color, my fav! So cute! Although, my tip jar will end up full of things like rocks, tiny lil' dinosaurs, lil' green army men, and the occasional whatchamacallits! LOL
ReplyDeleteYou crack me up! I'm sure one day we'll miss all those surprise items we find in the laundry :)
DeleteThis is TOO cute, Katie! You're so clever. ;) I love that color, too. And the knob on top is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Amanda!
DeleteHi Katir. How do you keep the spray paint from running down the sides? My bottle painting was such a disaster!
ReplyDeleteThis is super cute and most of us probably have all of the materials laying around! Thanks for linking up The Creative Circle!

ReplyDeleteWhat a fun and creative idea!! Thank you for linking up at the Be~YOU~tiful Link Party!! Featuring your cute idea today!
ReplyDeleteJust darling! I'm inspired :) Did you spray paint the INside of the jar, or the OUTside? I would think paint could easily scratch off glass. Did you treat the jar in any way before spray painting it?
