DIY Steel Pipe Hooks {Monthly DIY Challenge}

It's Monthly DIY Challenge time! Total side note....I can't help but want to sing the Peanut Butter Jelly Time song whenever I say "It's Monthly DIY Challenge Time!"  Those of you that have young kids might know this song, and if not, consider yourself lucky.                                I bet you'll have that stuck in your head now for the next, umm, week.  You can thank me later!   Now, back to the challenge. This month we challenged eachother to use plumbing pipes and I can't wait to show you what myself and my talented blogging friends have came up with.  If you've been reading my blog for awhile, you may remember the wood and steel pipe shelves I made for my son's room.    For this challenge, I used the same concept as the shelves, but made hooks for our basement instead. Here's what I used:             ......

Recycled Laundry Room Tip Jar

Please, tell me I'm not the only one who likes to make projects out of things that would otherwise get thrown away.  It's not uncommon for me to save my kids  toy packaging , cardboard, soup cans  and jars in hopes of turning them into something useful.  It's a slight problem that has added to the mess in the office/craft room :) So, of course I had to save the spaghetti sauce jar from our recent dinner the other night. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with the jar, but knew it was too perfect to just be recycled.  It ended up sitting on our kitchen counter for about a week until it finally hit me.....turn it into a my laundry room tip jar! Now, I also know I'm not the only one who finds money in the laundry!  Sometime's I'm lucky enough to find an occasional $10 or $20 bill, but normally it ends up being a quarter here and there.  My laundry room was always a mess and the spare change always got thrown on top the dryer.  Now t......

Saving money with cash and a $5.00 money saving challenge

Over a year ago, I did a no spending month and cut our monthly budget drastically to see if we could live on less.  It was an eye opening experience that forced me to make a few sacrifices and get creative with meal planning and entertainment.   Hey, not buying coffee creamer because we needed milk or drinking off brand coffee because it was cheaper was a sacrifice for this coffee loving girl!  Strange enough, after just a few short weeks, I was getting used to our new budget.  I've always wanted to do another no spend/budget tightening month, but when my co-worker mentioned we should try it in February, I just wasn't ready to commit.  Instead, I thought about doing something else that I've done in the past, a $5 challenge!  For this challenge to work, you have to use cash, yes I said CASH!  Not credit cards, not debit cards, but cash.  Cold.hard.cash. You've all heard of the envelope system, right?  Whether you want to go to an all cash s......

{Mudroom Progress} Temporary light, paint choices and flooring

Did you guys think I forgot about the mudroom?  It's been quite a while since I shared an update, but to be honest, not much has been completed.    After whitewashing the brick  and hanging the rustic pallet coat rack  our mudroom took a major halt on progress.  We were extremely fortunate to be given an entire set of awesome kitchen cabinets, which we had been storing in our mudroom. Yeah, it's been a hot mess in there! I am happy to say, the cabinets have since be moved to the garage and laundry room and the mudroom is finally cleared out.  (mostly!) Now, back to the light.  If you remember, I plan on finishing our mudroom with temporary products until we do the full blown kitchen remodel.  In the meantime, I don't want to look at an unfinished space for 1-2 years, so I'm temporarily finishing it as cheap as possible.   That's when I got the idea to install the pendent lights over the plan light bulbs. Have you all seen th......
