Kitchen Update Week Two: The Walls are Gone

Week two first floor renovation update of our small ranch style home.

This week was all about demo and removing ALL THE WALLS!

Our contractor made major demo progress and was able to remove all the walls around our stairs, completely opening up our floor plan.  It's AMAZING how much larger our small home feels simply by removing a few walls.   We still have a way to go, but having the walls down and being able to visualize the space is such an amazing feeling.

There was quite a bit involved with removing, securing and supporting the walls properly, but now they are down and we are ready to roll.   The contractor has a bit more framing to do then the HVAC and electrical work needs to be completed before we can move onto drywall.

Did you notice the new window?  I'm so glad we decided to replace our single kitchen window with a new triple casement window.  It adds so much more light and opens up the space.  It does have grids and I'll be painting it Iron Ore to match the island and the rest of the windows and doors in our home.

You would think not having a kitchen would be a major inconvenience, but honestly, it hasn't been too bad.  We turned our basement bar area into a temporary kitchen, which has worked out really well.  The hardest part has been dealing with the dust and mess.   It's constant and no matter how hard we try it's everywhere.   I know it's just a small inconvenience, so I'm doing my best to let it go and just clean up as much as I can.

I love a good before and after shot, so I put together a few before and during comparisons.  It gives a much better view of just how far we've come in the last week and a half.

Next weeks progress won't be as drastic, but it should look a little more like a kitchen once the drywall is complete and the floors are installed and refinished.   Slowly but surely it's getting there!
