HOW TO MAKE FAUX PUMPKINS LOOK REAL
I bought a few inexpensive faux pumpkins from Walmart, paying attention to the shape and not how ridiculous they looked.  I would have bought some from the Dollar Store, but I was in Walmart at the time.  If you want to save even more money you may want to check your local Dollar Store first.

Supplies needed to make plastic pumpkins look real

I gave each pumpkin 2 coats of white chalk paint.  I chose white, but I think I'm going to make a few green ones as well.

After the paint was dry I used an X-acto knife to cut out a few of the stems so I could replace them with wood.

The other stems I painted with different shades of brown craft paint to make them look a bit more real.

I then coated each pumpkin with vintage wood and dry brushed a small amount of brown craft paint into the groves.  I let the pumpkins dry then dry brushed another light coat of white chalk paint on the "raised" areas.  This creates dimension and gives the pumpkins a realistic look.

  4. What kind of glue you used to attach the real wood?

    1. I actually didn't use glue since the wood is pushed tightly into the foam. Although, if you wanted to use glue hot glue or craft glue would work.

  5. Wow, these are great! They do look much better than the other too bright orange color. And I love how you make the stems. I'm wondering how you affixed them too...I'm assuming some kind of glue.

    1. Thank you! The stems are simply pushed into the foam. They are long enough and thick enough to stay put :)
