42 Gallons...

That's about how much water gushed into our basement while we were sleeping.  I woke up at 5:45 Thursday morning to my husband calmly saying, "you forgot to put the hose back in the laundry tub last night and there is water everywhere."   Thank goodness he was calm because I was completely freaking out.

As soon as I stepped down from the basement step my feet were soaked and my stomach dropped.   What have I done?  The water had poured right out of our washer hose and into our laundry room, office and half of our basement.  Gallons and gallons of nasty, dirty, soapy water.  I'm not gonna lie, there were moments of crying, complete frustration and a few cuss words said. Yeah, it's been a rough couple of days to say the least.

Our basement quickly went from this....

(sorry for the blurry iPhone picture)

to this...

Everything that was on the floor and under the stairs had to be moved out and to where it was dry.  Cardboard storage boxes that were on the floor just fell apart and crumbled in my hands.  Everything had to be removed from the boxes, which resulted in piles and piles of stuff everywhere.  It was an overwhelming mess.

At first we had 3 dehumidifiers (thank goodness for family and incredible neighbors) and 4 fans running constantly in hopes of drying out the basement.  That ended up being a lost cause as the padding was completely saturated and needed to be removed.  Let me tell you, it was not a happy day ripping up carpet that was only 4 years old.  The office was even more depressing since we just had it installed last year.  UGH!

My husband and I spent Friday night and most of Saturday morning moving furniture and tearing out  the padding.

All because of this....

A black hose that I forgot to put back in the laundry tub.

  4. Oh my goodness! So much work! We did the same thing at our daughters house but we were there as it happened, I have not moved that fast since. We were able to catch it before it got too far but spent days with humidifiers running. The room did get a thorough cleaning though lol! Have a greatfull day! XxDazee

  5. Oh Katie, how awful for you! It's so much worse knowing you could have prevented it. And SUCH awful timing right before Christmas! Things can always be worse though. I've had the longest two weeks of my life too and I've had to tell myself this every few minutes just to get through. Know that you're not alone right now my friend! xo
