Easy Wood Ornament Decor From Dollar Tree

Add a bit of holiday cheer to your walls with this inexpensive wood ornament decor from Dollar Tree.

First, I want to thank you for all your excitement and words of encouragement over yesterday's post.  It truly blew me away and I am so incredibly lucky to have such amazing reader's and friends.

I was hoping to get this project shared sooner in case any of you wanted to grab the same ornament from Dollar Tree, but I just have way too many holiday projects to share and not enough time to share them.  I'm hoping Dollar Tree still has some of these oversized wood ornaments in stock, but don't hate me if they don't, ha.

This is such a cute and simple project that would be perfect for dressing up your door or walls for the holiday's.  It's also super affordable and nearly free if you have a nice stash of craft supplies.

  • Chalk paint
  • Diamond Dust
  • Faux greenery and berries (optional)
  • Paint brush
  • Pliers
I started with one of these wood ornaments that I picked up from Dollar Tree a few weeks ago.  They had a few different designs and although they are cute as is, they just weren't MY style.  I wanted something neutral and simple and that's exactly how I updated mine.

The front of the ornament has spots with glitter, so I decided instead of sanding it smooth that I would just update the back and make it double sided.

I used needle nose pliers to remove the top of the ornament then gave it two coats of chalk paint.

While the chalk paint was still wet I sprinkled a generous amount of diamond dust over the entire ornament and let it dry.

After shaking off the excess I embellished it a bit with some faux greenery and berries.

It makes such a great addition to our Christmas mudroom and I love the fact that the total cost of the project was a mere $1.06.

It's hard to tell in pictures, but the diamond dust adds just the right amount of sparkle to make it interesting.

  1. Thanks so much for sharing another great find! I want to wish you the best on your new life adventure. I totally understand. I recently took a scary step, too. I taught for 28 years and decided to retire! I knew I wanted to do something different and blogs like yours have really helped. I have begun refurbishing furniture and creating home decor items. I even took the big step of setting up a booth in a local antique/resale shop! You are awesome and everything will work out.

  2. I am always amazed at how you saw the ornament in the store, but saw it a different way in your mind and was able to actually make it better. That has to be a God-given talent. No matter how hard I try, I just do not have that. Jealous. : )

  3. I don't know how I missed that sign in my frequent forays to Dollar Tree. I love how you made it your own style.
