How to turn Dollar Tree art into an easy farmhouse tray

What's better than an easy Dollar Tree makeover?  A Dollar Tree makeover that only takes 3 steps to complete!

I know I usually post my Dollar Store DIY projects on the first Monday of the month, but this month you're getting two projects instead of one.  I'm just going to assume you don't mind.   Last week, I shared how to transform a clear Dollar tree vase and this week is all about making an easy farmhouse tray.

I kind of went on a little Dollar Tree binge recently and ended up coming home with quite a few items.  I was too excited to let them sit, so I whipped out a couple craft supplies and got to work.

Dollar Tree has a wide variety of wood signs and artwork.  They are perfect for creating custom signs, art or you can even turn them over and make an adorable farmhouse tray.

First,  paint your tray.

I used leftover Sherwin-Williams Iron Ore since it's my favorite color and matches every room in my home.

Second, stain your wood caps.

I bought my wood caps from Walmart (for less than $3.00) then stained them using leftover Minwax dark walnut stain.

Third, glue caps to the bottom of your tray.

I used Dap rapid fuse wood glue since it dries super fast and is great for all wood projects.

Now you have the perfect farmhouse tray!

You can distress the tray for a more rustic farmhouse look or keep it clean if you're going for a modern farmhouse vibe.

You can use this little Dollar Tree art turned farmhouse tray to display decor or set it on a nightstand to hold your bedside essentials.  Either way, it can make a great addition to your modern farmhouse decor.

  1. How long ago did you buy the box/tray? Just went to our DollarTree and they said those were in stock over a month ago.

    1. Oh no! This particular tray was bought probably close to a month ago. Did they have anything similar? I feel like I always see similar artwork there. Sometimes I do have to hit different Dollar Trees to find certain items though.

    4. You are the sweetest! My wood bead garland is 4ft minus the tassels. It's a great length, but you can really make them any length you want.
