Spring is here and that means the saturday morning yard sales will be popping up everywhere. I get excited about yard sales, but not as much as my dad. Let me tell you, he is king of yard sales. Somehow he manages to find some real gems for a fraction of what they sell for at big box stores. My son has not one, but two large metal Tonka dump trucks that retail for over $50, but my dad somehow paid a mere $5 a piece for them. All of my sons Melissa and Doug and Thomas trains are from yard sales. My daughter has a large ottoman full of dress up princess clothes all from yard sales. The list is endless.
One of the items my dad came home with was an adorable jewelry box full of kids jewelry. The jewelry box was cute as is and I left it that way for a year or so, but with a room redo in progress I wanted the box to match her room.
My daughter and I took a trip to Home Depot to pick out the new paint colors. We picked BEHR Juicy Passionfruit and Glidden Sea Grass Green (matched to BEHR paint) and a got a small sample pot of each.
I took the drawers out and pulled the flower knobs off and gave the outside of the box two coats of the Sea Grass green.
I knew I wanted the outside green, but hadn't really thought about how I was going to paint the rest of the box. The entire project kind of evolved as I went. I first thought about painting black and white stripes on the drawers. That idea was crushed when I realized I didn't have black paint. I have a ton of scrapbook paper, so I raided my stash and found the perfect white paper with black polka dots to use on the drawer fronts.
The insides of the drawers got three coats of Juicy Passionfruit.
The jewelry box looks pretty basic until you open the drawers to find a fun pop of coral and gold.
My daughter was kind of sad to see the lady bugs and flowers go, but after I was finished she was definitely excited about her "new" jewelry box.
You did such a great job. I love this jewelry box.
