T.J. Maxx Finds & Shopping Secrets

Happy Friday!

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit this, but I just found out that you can shop T.J. Maxx online!!!  How did I not know this???  I blame it on the fact that I have FIVE HomeGoods and THREE T.J. Maxx stores within 30 minutes from my house.  Who needs to shop online when you can head straight to the store?  Don't tell my husband, but I'm usually in one of our local stores at least once a week.  You have to shop often to get the best deals, right?

Regardless if I shop online or in store, I definetely buy my fair share of decor (and clothes!) from T.J. Maxx.

Do you remember my fall mudroom?

The pillow, throw and orange pumpkin were all purchased from T.J.Maxx.

My fall dining room also sported a few T.J. Maxx items, including a wool pumpkin and the matching plaid pillow from the mudroom.

1. Know when new inventory comes in.  Most stores get deliveries multiple times a week, but it's worth asking your local store when they typically restock their shelves

2.  Markdowns typically take place Tuesday evening.   Shopping first thing Wednesday morning guarantees you'll get first pick of the most recent markdowns.

3. Don't let the discount prices deter you from buying.  Less than 5% of their merchandise is imperfect.

4. Don't be afraid to ask for an additional discount if an item is marked "As-is" and on clearance.  I have been able to get an additional 10-20% off already marked down prices simply for asking if they can provide an additional discount.

5. Be sure to check T.J. Maxx before heading to larger department stores.  They are able to forgo the standard "buy back agreement" where stores are able to sell back unsold merchandise to designers.  This means you may find the same in-season, name brand inventory at Macy's and Nordstrom at a much steeper price.

6. You won't find sales at T.J. Maxx, but they do have twice a year (January and July) markdowns where they switch out summer and winter decor and clothing to get ready for the new season.   Make sure to shop during these times to take advantage of extra markdowns.

7. Never pass up a good bargain!  Stores receive limited quantities of each item and merchandise can sell out quickly.  It's best to buy an item then return it later if it's not exactly what you want.

8. Don't forget about the clearance aisles!  Items may be slightly damaged or missing pieces, but can usually be painted, updated or used for other DIY projects.

  1. Ooooooh! I wonder how many of these fantastic tips apply to TK Maxx and Homesense in the U.K.? I'm in one of their stores so often, they're going to start sticking price labels on me! 😂
