Recycled Tin Can Pumpkins

My kids are going back to school on Monday, mums are being sold in stores and September is right around the corner.   In my book that can only mean one thing, fall is right around the corner.  Whether you like it or not, days are already getting shorter and the mornings a little cooler.  I personally happen to love this time of year and look forward to the leaves changing color, and spending time at all the wonderful fall festivals.

Every year I look forward to creating a few fall projects and this year was no different.  My pallet pumpkins are going to be hard to top, but I have plans for another pallet pumpkin project.  I already asked my husband to bring me home some pallets, so hopefully I'll be able to get started on those soon.  In the meantime, I grabbed a leftover tin can from the recycle bin and got to work creating a super easy pumpkin.

I like creating seasonal projects that blend in with my everyday decor, so I decided to make the pumpkin white.  I started by spray painting the can with white spray paint then I cut pieces of veneer edging just long enough to wrap around the can.

 I used a combination of double sided tape and hot glue to attach the veneer strips to the can.

I didn't take a picture, but I also cut a circle out of balsa wood and glued it to the top of the can.

After the strips and wood were attached, I coated the can in a whitewash using a mix of white chalk paint and water.

I finished off the pumpkin by hot gluing a piece of a branch and gold wire to the top.

You definitely have to have a bit of imagination with this pumpkin.  When I asked my husband what he thought it was he had no idea.  Really?  You can see a pumpkin, right?

Either way, I think they turned out pretty well considering most of the materials were either free or something I had on hand.
