10 Minute Planked Bookcase Update

Hey friends,  I hope you had a great weekend!  We spent ours planting flowers, mulching and getting our garden ready for planting.  Thank goodness I have a very eager 4 year old who loves to dig in dirt and help any chance he can get.  I have to say though, even with his help my husband and I are totally beat today.  There's nothing like grunt labor to make you realize how out of shape you are.  #sadbuttrue

Since sharing a garden full of dirt and a few plants isn't very exciting, I thought I would share a quick an easy update that I made to an old bookcase.

You may recall that I bought our mudroom flooring MONTHS ago with the plan of installing it soon after.  Well, here we are months later and it's still sitting in boxes just waiting to be installed.  We have had issue after issue with our final inspection, so until everything is cleared the floor will remain unfinished.  In the mean time, I decided to take a few of the vinyl planks to update a plain and boring bookcase.

These planks are perfect for quick projects since they are peel and stick and super easy to cut with a quick swipe of a razor blade.  The entire project only took 3 pieces of flooring, which ends up being about $6.00.  I bought 6 boxes for our mudroom, but you can also buy them individually making this project quick, easy and super affordable!

I began by removing the back of the bookcase then measured and cut the planks,

peeled off the back,

  stuck them to the original bookcase backing then reinstalled it onto the bookcase. That's it. 

 I love that it ties in with the console table as well as adds a bit of a rustic element to the room.

I also swapped out a few decor pieces by shopping the house.  I snatched the mirror from the mudroom (HomeGoods),  the number 4 from the basement (HomeGoods Clearance), the rustic metal vase from the closet (friends wedding) and the vintage wood box from my moms house.  In case you are wondering, I have two of these wood boxes and the other one is still on the dining room table.

I love how this space is coming together and smile every time I walk past.  Now, if only we could do something about those dated 70's orange hardwood floors!
