DIY Steel Pipe Hooks {Monthly DIY Challenge}

8 steel pipe projects

It's Monthly DIY Challenge time! Total side note....I can't help but want to sing the Peanut Butter Jelly Time song whenever I say "It's Monthly DIY Challenge Time!"  Those of you that have young kids might know this song, and if not, consider yourself lucky.

I bet you'll have that stuck in your head now for the next, umm, week.  You can thank me later!

Now, back to the challenge.

This month we challenged eachother to use plumbing pipes and I can't wait to show you what myself and my talented blogging friends have came up with.  If you've been reading my blog for awhile, you may remember the wood and steel pipe shelves I made for my son's room.    For this challenge, I used the same concept as the shelves, but made hooks for our basement instead.

Here's what I used:

                                                              -1  1x6x6 board
                                                              -3 steel floor flanges
                                                              -3 steel pipes (I used 1 1/2 inch)
                                                              -3 steel caps
                                                             -Metal Numbers

After cutting the board into 3 equal pieces I stained them with Minwax Jacobean stain.

Once the stain was dry, I applied a coat of white paint then gave them a good sanding for a distressed look.   It was then time to screw in the numbers, assemble the pipe pieces and add the hooks for hanging.

They're the perfect addition to my recent gallery wall.

  10. Wow! Those DIY-ed hooks for hanging are so charming! They look vintage due their color, simple yet aside from their classic charm, I see that they’re quite useful. Perhaps, due to the fact that the materials used are quite strong and durable. Thanks for sharing this, Katie! Kudos!

  11. This is pretty sweet! I Love that distressed look. Which sandpaper grit did you use to achieve that? Did you sand uniformly? It looks like you did more in some areas than others. I use those metal pot scrubbers at the end of the process myself. They create deep scratches that really add to the whole thing. Just don't overdo it!

    1. Thanks Karla! I don't remember what grit I used, but I definitely sanded harder in some areas. I'll be sure to try the scrubbers that you recommend :)
