Dirt, holes and more dirt

My husband worked hard on Saturday digging for the footers while the kids enjoyed playing in the dirt.  Thank goodness he has access to equipment and knows how to run them.  He definetly saved us a boat load of money by doing this part himself.
The kids had a blast helping run the excavator and digging in the dirt.

I did my part by holding the grade scale (is that even the proper term?), tape measure and taking the kids off my husbands hands for a few hours.  My dad even came over to help out while I took the kids to lunch.

After a few hours my husband had the entire trench measured and dug for the footers.

The inspector is supposed to come out today to hopefully (crossing fingers) sign off so we can move forward with pouring the footers.  We're still about 3 weeks out for framing, but it's definitely coming along.   Yesterday, I signed for the garage doors and were getting ready to place our order for all the wood, windows and front mudroom door (still deciding on a new front door).  While we wait for the next step, the kids have been having a blast playing in the dirt and holes.

  1. Oh my, all that dirt looks like sooo much fun for your kids! My dad is a construction guy and I remember playing in the trenches when I was little too. : )
How fun to be at the ordering stage now! Have fun deciding on a door!

    1. I don't think my kids are going to be happy when we fill the holes! The ordering stage is fun, but so stressful! I wish I wasn't so indecisive and could make up my mind :)

  2. Things always look worse before they look better! I've enjoyed checking out your blog!

    1. I try and tell myself that all the time, but I'm very impatient and just want to get straight to the "after." Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment. I hope you stop by again!
