{DIY} Glittered Deer art...

If you have been reading this blog longer than a day, then you should know that I have a slight love for deer and gold.  So, what would a Christmas mantel be without a little glittered deer artwork?  I grabbed a piece of scrap wood, paint, glitter and a deer picture and went to work.

I first painted the scrap wood with two light coats of white paint.  I wanted the wood grain to show through so I just used acrylic paint.  If you are looking for full coverage I would suggest using either spray paint or latex paint.
I searched the web for a deer silhouette that would be easy to enlarge and cut out.  Once I had the deer cut out and the wood was dry I traced the deer onto the wood.
I filled in the deer with metallic gold paint.
While the paint was still wet I covered the entire deer in gold glitter.
After the paint and glitter were dry I added decorative tape and upholstery nails to make a border.

I like to change my Christmas decor from year to year, but don't like to spend a lot of money.  This was the perfect project to update my mantel without spending money.
