It's starting to look like Fall...

I had a great day Saturday at the local Apple Festival with the kids.  They had a blast painting their own pumpkins, making apples out of paper plates and running around the park.  It inspired me to come home and do a little fall decorating myself.

I finally replaced the spring flowers on my front porch with some Fall mums, hung a Fall wreath and decorated a few pumpkins.  In the summer I tore out two mums from the front flower bed because they were getting too big and I wasn't thrilled with the color.  I wanted to replace them with rust colored mums instead of the purple ones that were there.  I recently painted my front door navy and thought the rust colored mums would look much nicer against the navy door.

When I'm using pots with drainage holes I like to put coffee filters in the bottom before adding soil.  This way the water is able to drain through without the soil falling out the bottom of the hole.
The two other yellow mums went in pots on the front porch and the rust ones were planted in the front flower bed.

The fall wreath was made using fall decorations left over from last year.

I also did a little pumpkin decorating with spray paint and upholstery nails.  I bought two pumpkins from Walmart and spray painted them white.  I took the top "vines" off before spray painting instead of trying to tape them off.

I also got a little jump start on my Halloween decorating and decorated the entry table.  I used black card stock and cut a few bats out to add to the wall.  I bent the wings a bit so they looked more like they were flying.  See that white pumpkin below?  That's one of the ones that I spray painted.  It looks much better white!

I know it's not even October yet and Halloween is a month away, but this way I can enjoy a few Halloween decorations all month long.  Now I just have to get my butt moving on Owen's Halloween costume.  He wants to be a trash truck and I'm attempting to make one out of card board boxes.  I'm afraid it's probably going to take me all month to pull this one off.  Wish me luck!

  1. Your home is lovely! I do a similar "bat" treatment and my kids love it :)

  2. I would love to know how you did the Bats in more detail

  3. Here's the template that I used. I hope the link works for you!
