Free Printable to Make Easy Winter Tags

An easy tutorial for creating beautiful wood tags to add the perfect holiday touch to packages and decor.

I heard you loud and clear.  You are having trouble finding the wood tags that I used in last week's Dollar Tree votive makeover.   I bought mine when Target first started bringing out their Dollar Spot holiday decor and apparently they were popular and sold out fast.  It's so disappointing when I share a project that is supposed to be easy for you to create, but ends up being impossible since supplies no longer exist.  Thankfully, I love a good challenge, so I created a free printable for you to make your own easy winter tags.

affiliate links have been used.
- Winter tags printable (get it below)
- Wood craft sticks (if you prefer thinner tags)
- 1/2 wood dowel (if you prefer chunkier tags)
- Red and white baker's twine
- Fine grit sandpaper
- Scissors
- Box cutter (I used a mitre saw to cut my wood dowel)
- Small craft paint brush
- Drill and small drill bit

I wasn't sure if I would prefer thicker or thinner tags, so I went ahead and used a 1/2" wood dowel and craft sticks.  I ended up liking the wood dowels better, but since the printable is sized to fit both, either will work.

(Not sure why they look so dark, but they print out much lighter)

I used a mitre saw to cut the wood dowel (you can also use a utility knife) and scissors to cut the craft sticks.  After I had the wood cut to length I used Mod Podge to glue the tags to each piece of wood.

Once the glue was completely dry, I sanded the sides and edges of the wood, drilled holes in each tag, then applied a thin coat of Mod Podge to seal and protect them.

I originally used these little wood tags to update Dollar Tree votives, but you could also use them to dress up holiday gifts or decor.

  2. I am unable to download the free printable. The link just keeps directing me to signup for email subscription, which I already do with two different email addresses. Am I doing something wrong? I was so excited to find the votive holders at my local Dollar Tree, now I just need the printable. Love this project and had hoped to make them for the tireless workers at my mother's nursing home. They are truly unsung heroes and don't often get recognized. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your blog, Katie...by far my favorite! Your talent and creativity is amazing and inspirational...Thank You!
