One Room Challenge Week 5- The Tile is in!!!

Well, we are on week five of the One Room Challenge, which means there is only one more week until the reveal of our Vintage Modern bathroom.  I was getting worried about my progress, but after busting my butt this weekend I was able to get the tile cut, installed and grouted.  I just have to wait for the grout to dry then I can start bringing everything back into the space.

Cutting tile with wet saw

Affiliate links have been used.
The tiles are 7-3/4 in. x 7-3/4 in. and are on the thin side, so they were super easy to cut with a smaller wet saw.  Just be sure to go real slow when you get to the end of the tile to avoid chipping.
Installing patterned charcoal tile
In order to save time (and my sanity!) I tiled right over top the existing tile.
Grouting patterned charcoal gray mosaic tile
I used Polyblend sanded charcoal grout, which is a little on the dark side, but it works.
Vintage Modern Farmhouse Bathroom tile
I am no stranger to tiling and grouting, but this was my first time using dark grout and it was a major pain to wipe down.  I felt like I kept making more of a mess and it was never going to end. Thankfully, after many trips up and down the stairs to empty and rinse out a water bucket I was able to clean up all the grout and remove the haze.

I FINALLY fixed the corner floor board and was able to install the transition piece.  It now feels like the space is coming together!

I also picked up a few fun accessories while I was at Target the other day!

White Bath Rug (four colors and 25% off!!!)  / Wastebasket (25% off!!!) / Gold Wine Glass

I think they'll look great with my artwork and light fixture!

Are you playing catch up?

  2. Any pro tips for tiling over tile? Like, when is it NOT okay to do so? I have some mexican-style pink tile with wide grout lines that I'm SO tempted to tile on top of, but there's always that fear in the back of my mind that it will all look lumpy. Your space is coming along great!
