How to make a photo clipboard with FREE printable

How is it February and time for another Monthly DIY challenge?

This month we all headed to the hardware store and picked up 1x2 lumber to create 11 DIY projects! I threw around the idea of creating a vase or candle holder, but ultimately ended up making one of my favorite go to projects. Memo boards and photo frames are easy to make and a staple for any decor style.

The best part is the wood is inexpensive and they are perfect for displaying your favorite artwork, quotes or pictures!

Do you remember when I shared my IKEA Expedit bookcase turned lockers and suggested keeping the scrap wood?  I'll give you one guess where the wood came from for this project.  Yup, I didn't even need to make any additional cuts.  I simply measured the size of the scrap wood then cut my 1x2 lumber at 45 degree angles to create a frame.

I was going for a distressed look, so I poked holes and made gauges in the wood with a screwdriver before staining.  I then mixed Ipswich and espresso stain together to achieve the perfect aged color.

While my stain was drying I sprayed four corner brackets with ORB spray paint and gave my scrap piece of wood a coat of Sherwin-Williams Iron Ore.

After everything was dry I glued the 1x2 frame and clipboard clip to my painted board, whipped up a printable and I had my own DIY photo clipboard.

  1. Love how easy this is! When I first saw the frame, I was bummed because I don't have any old wood, so I especially like your distressing technique.
