I hope everyone is enjoying their week!
I'm slowly brightening our spaces to reflect the warmer temps, longer days and arrival of spring. I added a splash of pink to our entryway and now it's time to update the mudroom. I have to say, as much as I LOVE the added space of this room it's certainly not what I call complete. We "finished" this mudroom in order to create usable living space while we save up for our kitchen expansion. When that day comes, this space will get a full makeover with new flooring, built ins, crown molding and white plank walls. Until then, I'm working with basic finishes and trying my hardest not to go overboard on updates, that includes decor.
I knew I wanted to add a fun spring pillow to the bench, but spending $20-$30 on one pillow (why are pillows so expensive?) was not in the budget. I kept my eye out for fabric, tablecloths, napkins.....anything that I could turn into a pillow. I was thrilled when I finally found a four pack of napkins at HomeGoods. I loved the print and the $6.99 price tag was perfect!
Now that I had the pillow taken care of I had to find inexpensive art. When I'm looking for art I normally print out a free printable, but since my printer was nearly out of ink that wasn't an option. I then remembered I bought a book at Goodwill a few years ago that had a ton of beautiful pictures. I skimmed through the book, but nothing stood out that I thought would be perfect for the mudroom.
I ended up going through my scrapbook paper and found the perfect floral print. I simply lined my DIY vaseline memo board with the pretty paper then rehung the quote that I previously printed from Brepurposed.
A few vintage books from Goodwill and a pop of red and yellow finished off this side of the room.
We also added a beautiful new glass globe pendant that is very similar to the one we installed in the hallway.
I plan on adding an Edison bulb, but I didn't have one and was too impatient (surprise, surprise!) not to share this space.
The added pops of color is just what this space needed to brighten it up for Spring.
