Decorated Spring Porch and DIY Welcome Sign

Hey, happy Friday!  I'm skipping my normal Friday Favorites post to share a few front porch updates instead.   You may recall me mentioning that we are still fighting the county on our final inspection for the garage/mudroom addition.   The issue is the front porch and it drives me crazy that there is even an issue.

Take a look...

Looks fine to me, does it look fine to you?

Apparently, by code there should be a three foot landing from the door then a step, not a step to a landing.   Crazy, I know.  We have gone to the county and now we are in the process of writing a letter to get the code waived.  We haven't fully completed the porch because of this issue, but that didn't stop me from adding a few spring touches, including a super easy DIY welcome sign.

I started with an inexpensive pressure treated fence board that I stained with Minwax Jacobean.

Once the stain was dry, I traced the letters onto the wood then hand painted them with white paint.

I completely freehanded the placement of the letters because I'm just too lazy to measure.  It's not perfect, but that's okay.

After everything was dry, I cut the length down with a chop saw, gave the letters and edges a good sanding then propped the sign up next to the mudroom door.
It's the perfect addition to the porch and balances out the fern on the other side of the door.
The flowers have been planted for a few weeks now and miraculously I have remembered to keep them watered and alive.

I hope you all have an amazing weekend!
