10 minute HomeGoods clearance makeover

HomeGoods is one of my favorite stores to look for discounted decorative accents.  One of my favorite sections to browse is their clearance aisle.  If you keep an open mind and are willing to dig, you can usually find a ton of items that have potential.  Granted, most of these items are either damaged or a little "unique" and haven't sold, but they can always be altered and updated.  For instance, I just snagged these crazy, brightly colored wooden boxes other day.  The size, shape and style were perfect for my daughter's room.  The intense color and design, not so much.

Both boxes were marked down by 50%, so I couldn't pass them up.
While I was out I also picked up a pack of scrapbook paper that had a ton of paper options that were perfect for Paige's room.  I ended up using a coral trellis pattern to cover the lids of each box.   All I did was apply a thin coat of Mod Podge to the top of each lid then laid the paper on top.
Once the glue was dry, I applied a few more coats of Mod Podge on the top to seal the paper.  The entire project took less than 10 minutes and was super easy.

I'm not going to promise they will stay on this shelf.  I actually have another project that will probably go in this spot and move these to her dresser, but for now I love how they look.

  1. I love your style. The re-do on the boxes is adorable...but not as adorable as the rest of that bedroom!! Wow. I would love it if you linked this up to my Motivate Me Monday linky party at IT'S A ginger SNAP.
