New hallway rug and gallery wall...

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend!  I got to spend some quality time away with my husband, brother, sister-in-law and best friends for a quick overnight get away.  We went to the beach, but not before making a pit stop at the casino.  I didn't hit it big, but I didn't gamble our house away either.  All in all, we had an awesome time and I can't wait to do it again.

My new rug that I ordered from Overstock.com came the day before we left for the beach.  I loved it as soon as I took it out of the package and rolled it down the hall.  Our old rug was starting to get worn out and it was definitely time for a new one.  I searched online and found two rugs at Overstock.com that I really liked (Flat Weave Stripe blue runner and Moroccan Chatham dark blue and ivory rug).  I went back and forth between the two for a few days, until I finally decided on the striped runner.   The deciding factor?  I felt it gave me more options when the time comes to replace the living room rug.

The other change in our hallway is the gallery wall.  When we repainted our hall and living room a few months ago I knew I wanted to change the pictures around on the walls.  At the end of our hall I used to have a large wedding picture, but now I have a floor to ceiling gallery wall.  Most of the frames for the wall were purchased at IKEA with the exception of the white ones.   When I got home I laid all the frames on the floor, decided on an arrangement then hung them up one at a time.

On all the lower pictures I put command strips on the back to make sure they stay on the wall.  With young kids and a dog with a crazy strong tail this was a must.

I hacked the 2 RIBBA IKEA frames by blocking off the corners and applying gold leaf Rub 'n Buff.

Next up for the hallway is a new light fixture.

Here's what I'm thinking (just pretend you don't see the horrible photoshopping).

  1. Oh I love that gallery wall! And, what fun to get a new rug! I've been searching for a hallway rug for a while, hopefully I find one soon that meets all my criteria (basically stain and kid proof and budget friendly...yet pretty...so we'll see if such a thing even exists!).
We have almost that exact light over our dining table...though lower...and it is not my fave either. Your inspiration one looks fun!

    1. Good luck on finding a new rug! If you haven't all ready, check out Rugs USA. They have great prices and styles on rugs. I had a hard time finding a rug that my cat wouldn't destroy. Lately, he's been clawing our bedroom rug and I didn't want him attacking the hall rug. I decided on the flat weave for it's durability. I'm hoping it holds up!

  2. That IKEA hack is so smart. The gold leaf adds just enough to really make it pop!

  3. What paint color is your hallway? I like how light it is but there is still some warmth to it.

  5. Hello. I LOVE your gallery wall. I was wondering where you bought your giant letter "A" and what size is it? I would love to do a similar feature at the end of my hallway.
