Master Bedroom Reveal...

I am really excited to finally be done with my master bedroom makeover.  Well, done for now.  I don't like to say a room is complete, because I am forever adding accessories and changing things as I come across great finds.  But for now, it is D.O.N.E!

First, join me as I take a trip down memory lane to remember how much this room has changed.

Here we go...

The picture is not the best quality, but this is how the room looked when we first looked at the house.  The house had already been on the market a year when we came to check it out.  Can you imagine why?  I'm sure the dated decor and 1970's builder grade woodwork scared most people away.  If I didn't enjoy doing house projects I would have walked in and walked out in two seconds.  Nothing was ever touched in this room.  Nothing.  When we tore out all the base and trim molding we realized it was the same paint from when the house was built over 30 years ago.  I had a very hard time believing someone kept the same builder paint for 30 years.  I have a hard time keeping the same paint color for a year, let alone 30!

This is how the room looked right after we moved in.  All we did was plop our furniture down, make the bed and hang curtains.  Oh yeah, I also patched a few holes, hence the splotchy wall above.  It stayed like this for a few months until we bought a cheap rug and I found new bedding and curtains.

A few months later we ripped out all the molding and added new trim, base and crown molding.  We also got new closet doors and had the window removed and installed an atrium door that leads to our deck.  I painted the walls Griffin by Sherwin Williams, which is a very deep chocolate brown color.  It stayed that way for a few years until I realized it was very hard to decorate a room with such dark walls.

That leads us to today.

If you missed the post on how I painted the stripes you can go here to learn more.

I made the gray and white euro pillow covers using Waverly strands sterling fabric from Joann Fabrics.

Curtains were made from my incredibly talented mom using Waverly pom pom play spa fabric from Joann's.

The mirror above was made from a $10.00 Walmart mirror.  I removed the original plastic black trim and made a new frame using 1 x 4's that I cut down to size using a chop saw.  I stained the wood with my favorite Minwax ebony stain, stapled and glued the corners, added metal plates for reinforcement and hooks for hanging.

This room is now one of my favorite rooms in the house.  It's so bright and cheery and a huge change from the dark chocolate walls.
